Delivery Day!
Hallelujah! While at work today, new appliances were delivered! I have to say, as much as I LOVE this new house, I am really sad that we had to leave our beautiful kitchen in North Wales and a little disappointed in the kitchen here. To tell the truth, we didn't find a house in our price range with a phenomenal kitchen (hell, we even looked at homes nearly DOUBLE our target range and were let down by the kitchens, so it is what it is), so we knew coming in that no matter how great the rest of the house was, the kitchen wouldn't be amazing. However, we're not undertaking major renovations this time around, so neither one of us wanted a complete gut job. Our kitchen really isn't a bad layout, it is just kind of dark and "old lady" style. The cabinets are a dark cherry, appliances were black, and countertops are black granite tile (UGH...tile). And it's not a super open kitchen, so it kind of felt like a black hole. Then, when we moved in last month, we realized that the dishwasher didn't work. I know, first world problems. But it's really a PITA washing each and every dish 24/7. Thankfully, Brady and Kylee really stepped up and I'd say they washed nearly half the dishes daily. They were the best little helpers and really didn't complain about it at all.
Anyways, George and I moved out the oven and dishwasher last night in preparation for today. IT. WAS. DISGUSTING. Seriously, I am the furthest thing from a clean freak, but good lord. People live like slobs. It literally looked like in the 13 years since the house had been built, the previous owners never, ever, EVER moved the stove and cleaned. It made me want to vomit. George commented that "at least there's no dead rodents under here". If the litmus test for how gross something is is whether there's a rotting animal carcass, then I give up I guess. Barf. Anyways, my knight in shining armor cleaned it really well and prepped for new appliances.
Here they are!! The stainless makes it *that* much less dark and dingy. Eventually we'll replace the countertops with some type of white-grey veiny granite to add some light as well (and get rid of the gross tile grout). But for now, this is a massive upgrade! Plus, the added cubic feet of a much larger fridge AND a double oven! I've wanted a double oven for over a decade, but it just seemed to fall that we got a killer deal on something else (this is the 3rd kitchen remodel), and that was ok....but this is super nice!
Today I got off a couple hours early! I think these days are far and few between, so I'll gladly take them when they come! There were a TON of laboring and delivering women today, so I successfully placed several epidurals. Overall, a great day. A bunch of deliveries this morning and afternoon, but by later in the day (3-4pm), there were only 3 and were very early in labor with no anesthesia needed (for the foreseeable future). I got home early and relieved George so he could go work out at the gym for the first time in nearly a week. The gym's kid care hours are SUPER limited and you have to pay extra (and pay separately for each kid), so it's been kind of a deterrent to him working out regularly. That's his sanity time, and I feel bad for not being here to give that to him.....so when I can, I do.
Also, we finally heard from Kodaman this evening! His communication has been majorly lacking, but I've given him a pass on it because they've all been in Washington and Oregon on family vacation. He's been having a blast and he got a new pair of his ridiculously expensive tennis shoes as an early birthday present-a pair of NMD's. So he's pretty much on cloud nine right now. We're buying his ticket back home tonight, and I can't wait to see how much he's grown this summer! He'll head home the end of the first week of August before school starts on the 15th! Can't wait to see that goober!
