Just Another Day

Monday mornings....definitely made better by the absence of 5:30am didactics and 4:30am wakeups. I decided to choose the healthy option of still getting up a bit early and running. Awoke at 5:15 and got up to run a few miles. I discovered that I'm really not a fan of running in the dark. Houses around here generally have some outside lighting, but it's still not enough to really illuminate the sidewalk very well and I'm paranoid about catching my toe on an uneven break in the sidewalk. We have one on the path from our driveway to the front door and I've damn near broken my toe on it several times and we've only lived here a month! However, running in the crisp, cool morning air is so nice. It was a balmy 65* when I ran this morning and was so comfortable. Anyways, long story short: I actually only ran a slow turtle-pace mile. One measly mile. Afterwards, I kinda wished I'd have just slept in that extra time because, even though I know intellectually that one mile is better than zero, I just have it in my head that anything less than 3 is kind of a waste. My attitude about running really needs an overhaul sometimes, but now that I look back on this morning, I'm glad I just got my butt out of bed and did something. Proof that I ran before the buttcrack of dawn:

In the ongoing saga of my hair, I had to wash it again after the pool yesterday before going to dinner and Costco. This time, I tried washing really quick and rinsing out ASAP so the purple shampoo wouldn't sit on my hair too long. That didn't help, and my hair just turned more purple than before. Oddly, it's basically only taking up the color on the right side of my head, so that's an even more odd look. I threw it up in a messy bun and went on with my day, vowing to make it to Ulta to buy different shampoo. We hit up Ulta after dinner and I rewashed my hair when I got home. I washed and massaged for an extra long time and pretty damn vigorously on the right side of my head and.......drum roll please..........MY HAIR IS STILL FREAKING PURPLE!!! Proof below.

Work wise, today was decent. There was a morning C-Section. I worked with a CRNA and an attending whom I hadn't worked with yet, so I wasn't sure if they would let me place the spinal since they didn't know what I was comfortable with. I was confident in introducing myself to them and it must have showed, as once we got in the room, they expected/assumed that I was placing it. Thankfully, it was a flawless placement. I feel like I'm starting to get the hang of this more and more and fail less times than I succeed, which is great. Unfortunately, that was literally the ONLY medical thing I did all day. I spent the rest of the day studying my ATLS book, completing the pretest for that beast of a course I take Thursday and Friday, and BS-ing with the other residents. I mean, I've already said how much I'm thankful for a program (anesthesiology) that has a great group of residents, but really all the programs at both the hospitals have awesome residents (and attendings!).
I came home to George making chicken wings for dinner. Unfortunately, our oven really sucks and for some reason wasn't getting to temperature. When we took them out (when they should have been done), they were still raw. So we had a later dinner. The countdown is on, though, as we're getting new appliances delivered TOMORROW! I'm SO EXCITED to not have to wash dishes anymore (our dishwasher was useless) and to have an oven that gets to temp and distributes heat evenly. In other food related news, I saw one of the OB residents eating yogurt that was the same brand of what we call our "carb milk" at OB didactics this morning. Never in my life did I think I'd get so excited about yogurt, but it's one of the things I've kind of been missing since going low carb! I have looked at every label of every brand, in every flavor, and even the "healthy" brands plain yogurt has a ton of carbs. This brand uses ultrafiltrated milk, essentially cutting the carbs down to half for just the milk. So at this exact moment, George is out to Kroger finding me "carb yogurt". I text him that maybe he should also get some more Enlightened Ice Cream because we have like 1-1.5 pints left. For those of you who don't know, Enlightened is AMAZEBALLS. I have tried Halo Top and Wink and all those other "healthy" brands of ice cream and they all taste like crap (especially Wink, BTW). But Enlightened is awesome. Anyways, he texted back-in less than 60 seconds-this photo. I'm pretty sure we harbor some serious mental telepathy, because he just KNOWS. Perfection.

Last but not least, I caught George using my Alchemy cream. Alchemy is a little tiny home-grown company out of rural Pennsylvania that makes body cream, bath bombs, soapy frosting (which is basically a semi-solid shower soap), perfume, and all things bath and body. It's pretty ridiculous, having "sales" only on Thursday nights and they sell out in seconds. No joke, if the sale is at 8pm, it's sold out by 8:01. So needless to say, I'm kind of a hoarder of all things Alchemy. George basically rolls his eyes when I go and hide on sale nights so I can cart a new cream or what have you, but NOW.......NOW I KNOW that he secretly loves it. Their scents are HEAVENLY. This is his fav (and mine too, actually), not far between their Butterbeer scent. If you want to know more about it, just ask me because I might be their biggest fan!

And now I'll leave you with this pic of the kids at Costco the other day. In the realm of "who the hell needs one of these", I was pretty close to buying each of them one because.....well.....they're hilarious and I probably laughed a little too long at this. Enjoy!
